Quick Trip to IIM Indore

I had to visit IIM Indore in relation to my thesis finalization and I did not make any flight bookings until the last minute. So I decided to drive to the place.
05:55 AM Started from home, took the outer ring road towards Hebbal.
9:15 AM Crossed Anantpur.

11:20AM Stopped at the new food court little after Kurnool. It is called Stop 'n Go Travel Plaza. It has a restaurant, Cafe Coffee Day and some other restaurants.

12:45 PM Entered Hyderabad Outer Ring Road.

2:00 PM Reached Cafe Coffee Day at Nagulapally just outside the Hyderabad towards Nagpur.
8:23 PM Reached Hotel Le Meredien, Nagpur.

08:15AM Checked out from the hotel and started towards Bhopal.
09:08 AM Stopped by Maharashtra Traffic Police near Savner. They asked for all the documents, I had all the documents in the physical copy but the insurance copy was removed by the service center last time around. I only had the soft copy. This place has pretty much zero network. It took almost 20 minutes of time to download the soft copy of insurance and show it to the cop and then he let me go.

10:30 AM Crossed Multai
11:00 AM Crossed Betul and into the bad roads.
The condition of forest roads from Betul to Itarsi is in a much-improved condition. Even though it is a two-laned road but the surface is pretty good.

2:00 PM Reached Bhopal.

07:15 AM Started from Home towards Indore.
08:40 AM Stopped at Cafe Coffee Day in Pappu and Pappu Ka Dhaba.
10:30 AM Checked into Sayaji Hotel. Here is my review of the hotel.
2:00 PM Went to Indian Institute of Management Indore.

4:45 PM Reached back to Hotel. Met some friends in the evening and decided to leave back to Bangalore the next day.
7:40 AM Left the hotel after breakfast.
10:15 AM Reached Bhopal. Had to meet a friend.
12:30 PM Reached home in Bhopal. Had lunch.
1:22 PM Left home towards Nagpur. The plan was to reach Nagpur and spend the night there.
4:40 PM Stopped at Hotel Meghna very close to Betul. This is one decent place on this circuit if one wants to have bio break.
7:47 PM Reached Nagpur, checked-into Le Meridien Hotel. It is kind of difficult to cross the Nagpur city nowadays because of multiple metro and flyover construction.
05:10 AM Checked out of the hotel and left.
6:35 AM Stopped for chai at a small shop in Wadki.
9:54 AM Stopped at Divya Hotel and Restaurant in Jangampally. It is a decent place on this stretch right on highway if you don't want to venture into towns apart from few dhabas on this stretch of national highway. So if you need to use restrooms etc this is the best place to stop.

11:20 AM Entered Hyderabad outer ring road.
12:00 PM Exited Hyderabad outer ring road towards Bengaluru
12:52 PM Crossed Mahboob Nagar
2:07PM Crossed Kurnool
3:32 PM Entered Anantpur

3:40 PM Stopped at this nice little place called Hyway Lounge just on the edges of Anantpur town towards Bengaluru. The place was good but service was quite slow.

6:15 PM Reached Devanhalli Toll. The FasTag lane was blocked by a guard. He did not let me go through. I was charged twice, onec by FasTag system and next time by the toll operator.
It took a total of 12 minutes to get out of this toll. Bengaluru ORR is being redone and because of that coming from Airport towards K  R Puram is just an experience from hell. Hopefully all this pain would be worth something in future.

It took almost 2 hours to reach from Airport to Near about HSR.

11:00 AM Return journey back to home continues, we start from Indore and continue on AH-47.

11:30 AM Get off the Indore Bypass and continue on the national highway.
12:30 PM Cross the bridge on Kalaghat on Narmada.

12:43 PM Found a small dhaba and stopped for a small tea break. Not a great place really.

12:50 PM Started the journey back.
1:20 PM Crossed Sendhwa
1:35 PM Crossed Palasner
1:50 PM Crossed Shirpur
2:30 PM Bypassed Dhule
3:15 PM Stopped at Sai Car Family Dhaba just before Malegaon.

4:00 PM Bypassed Malegaon. Here we decided to leave the AH-47 and turn towards road to Manmad. This is where the road is not that great but drivable. We continue towards Manmad.
4:30 PM Crossed Manmad
5:05 PM Crossed Yeola
5:33 PM Crossed Kopargaon
5:40 PM Here we are supposed to turn into Nagpur-Aurangabad-Mumbai highway. But the road is so bad that I could not even take my car on this road. So we continued straight for 6 kilometres and then took a right turn and continued another 6 kilometres to join back the Nagpur-Aurangabad-Mumbai highway.

6:30 PM Reached Talegaon. The road improves but is still not great. It is just drivable two lane road and makes overtaking almost impossible.
6:52 PM Crossed Sangamner, now we join Nashik Pune highway. The road becomes better but it is still narrow two lane road.
7:30 PM Stopped at a place called Daulat refreshments for tea.
8:30 PM Crossed Alephata
8:45 PM Crossed Narayangaon
9:30 PM In Pune City
10:30 PM Reached Holiday Inn hotel and checked in.

Christmas 2013, Rajasthan Road Trip, Day #10 of 12 -- Return journey starts, Bharatpur to Indore

Finally we had to start our journey back. We had originally planned on going via Kota-Ujjain but based on the feedback from hvkumar facebook page, we decided to take the longer route via Jaipur, Chittorgarh.

10:25 AM We left towards Jaipur on NH-11. Just after we entered the toll, saw something very interesting first time in my life. We were diverted to the wrong side of the road and I thought that it is just the regular road construction. After driving for a while we realised that the diversion was because a temple was feeding hundreds of people on the other side of road. Found it very interesting.
11:54 PM Crossed Dausa
12:30 PM Hit the outskirts of the Jaipur, Google map promptly navigated us to the ring road around Jaipur and apart from the fact that some portion of the road was bad it was a good idea.
1:00 PM Took left turn on to Ajmer - Jaipur Expressway going towards Ajmer.
Hotel Highway King
As soon as we turn onto the expressway, on the left we can see Hotel Highway King. We stopped there for lunch. It was good restaurant with decent facilities.
1:45 PM Finished lunch and left for onward journey.
2:30 PM Crossed DUDU
2:53 PM Turned left on to NH-79A going towards Chittorgarh just before Kishangarh. This road is narrower and not as good quality as Jaipur Ajmer expressway but it is still a decent road.

3:15 PM Crossed Nasirabad
4:50 PM Bypasswd Bhilwara
5:45 PM Crossed Bypass to Chittorgarh, As we cross the city, the road turns really bad. Lots of construction going on and most places the road just doesn't exist. The road is almost in the same state till Nimbahera.

7:30 PM Crossed Nimbahera. It took almost 1 hour 30 minutes from Chittorgarh to Nimbahera. Once we reached Nimbahera, we got stuck at the railway crossing for another 15 minutes.
8:00 PM Crossed Neemuch.
8:25 PM Just before Mandsaur, found a hotel on the highway called Hotel MP. It was decent hotel so we stopped for dinner there.
9:10 PM Left for onward journey.
9:20 PM Crossed Mandsaur
9:50 PM Crossed Jaora
10:15 PM Crossed Ratlam
By mistake we entered the Indore from the Pithampura side and that road is in really bad shape, actually it doesn't exist in most places.

12:30 AM Reached Radisson Blu Hotel and checked in. Here is my review of the hotel.

Travelog: Seven Jyotirlings and other stuff, 14 days Part 13/14

We started our journey back in morning from Ujjain.
8:00AM We crossed Indore. The route shown by Google Map took us to a wrong path. We landed up on NH59 and the road from NH59 to AH47 did not exist which google map was claiming to exist. We had to take some really bad rural road to get back on correct path.
10:09AM Crossed Dhamnod
11:05AM Crossed Sendhwa
12:25PM Crossed Dhule
2:15PM Crossed Malegaon.
We decided to go very close to Mumbai on AH-47 so that we can take Mumbai-Pune expressway to reach Pune. It was longer route but we just wanted to drive on expressway.
3:45PM We crossed Nashik
5:15PM Crossed Igatpuri
6:40PM Just after toll plaza, turned left to take the Pune Expressway.
7:00PM to 7:30PM We were stuck in severe traffic. Nothing moved at all.
8:20PM We joined Mumbai-Pune expressway near Kalamboli
8:36PM Crossed Bhatan Tunnel.
10:37PM Reached and checked into Holiday Inn in Hinjewadi.

Travelog: Seven Jyotirlings and other stuff, 14 days Part 12/14

Our original plan was to visit Omkareshwar on 17th-April-2013 and Mahakaleshwar on 18-April-2013. But due to the problem with the car's tires, we had to postpone the 17-April-2013 trip to the next day.
7:30am Left Ujjain towards Indore, to further continue to Omkareshwar.
9:30am Crossed Indore city

We took the road that goes to Khandwa for going to Omkareshwar. There is lot of construction going on where this road crosses the A B Road. You can see many colleges on this stretch. I even remember seeing the proposed site for Indian Institute of Technology, Indore on this road.
10:00am Crossed Simrol
10:10am Crossed Baigram
10:15am Crossed Choral, there is a railway station visible.
10:30am Crossed Balwara.
10:50am Crossed Barawah. There is a railway station visible right on the main road.
11:00am Left the main road by turning left towards Omkareshwar. From there the road become worse. It is very narrow and just about drivable.
11:15am Reached Omkareshwar. There are many parking places leading up to temple. One needs to park in one of them. On busy days, one may have to park much earlier and walk. The road leading towards temple is narrow with road side shops for prasad etc.
Omkareshwar Temple
To go to temple, one has to cross a pedestrian bridge over Narmada River. Actual temple is on an island. So this bridge is only way to reach there. There is also a big Shiva statue up the mountain which one can only go by trekking. We did not go there.
As one can see, even god is commercialized now a days. Mobile companies are vying with everybody else to plug themselves at god's place. As ususal, it is a good idea to by prasad from the vendors closer to temple, so you can leave your footwear there. In Omkareshwar, there is a hardsell from freelance pujaris to do some or other puja on your behalf, so one needs to be careful and signup for what one wishes. The temple was not very busy and it took us around 30 minutes to do darshan and get back to parking.
View of the pedestrian bridge from the temple
Here is another panoramic view of whole area.
Omkareshwar Panorama
Since we had started in the morning without breakfast, we decided to drop in the Madhya Pradesh Tourish Corporation run Narmada Resort for breakfast. Here is my review of this place in tripadvisor.
1:05pm We left Omkareshwar back to Ujjain where the next place to visit was Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling.
3:20pm We crossed Indore city
4:00pm We reached Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling in Ujjain. Mahakaleshwar temple is in the middle of Ujjain town which is a proper city so on busy days, it becomes difficult to find parking etc. But on lean days, there is sufficient paid parking.
5:20pm We were out of Mahakaleshwar temple.
This completed seven jyotirlings that we had set out to do. Our return journey was planned after a break of couple of weeks.

Travelog: Seven Jyotirlings and other stuff, 14 days Part 11/14

Early morning, after breakfast, we left the hotel enroute to Ujjain which was our destination at the end of the day, This was a whole day driving day with nothing else to do.
9:20am We left the hotel. The route planned was first to Dhule and then take A B Road towards Indore. The default route shown by Google Maps goes through Godhra and Dahod but we were not sure of road conditions there, so we went via Dhule.

Since we got out of hotel little late, we encountered serious traffic Jams. Most seem to be created by innovative drivers who were driving all over the place, but we were stuck for almost half and hour before we moved.
10:18am Encountered a railway crossing but again the same situation, both sides of railway crossing, vehicles occupied every inch of road and even after the gates opened, nobody moved. Finally traffic police showed up and we moved.
12:07pm Railway crossing near Chinchpada, a total mess. Everybody blocks the road on both sides. First we wait for 15 minutes to cross the railway crossing and then we sit in traffic for another 10 minutes because gate closes again and oncoming traffic has occupied the road.
3:30pm We reach Dhule. As you are entering Dhule, there is a nice Hotel called Krishna. We stopped here for Lunch.
4:30pm Crossed Shirpur Byepass.
5:00pm Crossed Sendhwa
5:15pm As I was driving along, I decided to go around a stone but was not successful and the stone hit the tyre. If you look carefully, just before the truck cross the car, there is white stone very close to the curb on right side. We did not notice anything in the car excep a thud noise.
Cracked Tyre
5:25pm The car sensors gave Low Air Pressure warning. We stopped to see if it was a puncture or something else. On closer inspection, we realised that side wall was ruptured and come off the rim. This was a serious problem, but since these were Run-On-Flat tyres, we decided to drive slowly, within the prescribed speed limit i.e. 80 kph.
6:00pm While we were driving, we called BMW and asked them if there is a way I can get tyre replacement. They offered to get the car towed if there was a problem but they could not get replacement tyre that day since it was already closing time. We confirmed that tyres were available in Indore and decided to worry about it the next day.
6:10pm We crossed Dhamnod.
7:30pm We were in Pithampur.
8:30pm We crossed Indore city. We deliberated whether to stay in Indore city at some hotel or continue to Ujjain. Since the type looked in decent condition even now, we decided to continue to and come back the next day for repairs.
9:30pm Reached Ujjain.
